The world of anime has evolved immensely over the years. And revisiting the past series’ and character designs can tell you a whole lot! So here, let us come and take a look at the classics until the new age of anime and see how it has changed.
The Age of Transparent Bangs and Sparkly Eyes
The earliest years of anime have been characterized by very large and sparkly eyes with the furriest rows of eyelashes. This gave the series’ a feel of fantasy and animated beauty. The large eyes gave room for expression and the characters have been drawn to be very expressive because of the eyes that allowed them. It is also the age where hair is one of the extravagant features of characters, however, less attention was given to manga backgrounds as characters are the central focus of attention.
The Age of Spikes and Defined Faces
During the nineties, the characters have been given more distinct shading. They have also been spikier in nature, with the chins and jaws more pointed. Characters, during this time, however, have been more anatomically correct. It is also the start of better backgrounds with the use of computer generated graphics. The noses of the characters have been more defined with shadows and shading, along with the pointed features of the face.
The Time of Moe
The latest anime of our age has been characterized by the domination of characters that have been described as “moe”. These are characters with large eyes, round faces, small lips and almost non existent noses. Designs are surely getting cuter and cuter.
