Anime Review: Kimi ni Todoke

Posted: February 14, 2010

Plot

It’s an ordinary high school life with extraordinary circumstances. Enter the life of Kuronuma Sawako, an ordinary high school girl who wishes to have an ordinary high school life like everybody else. However, as circumstances dictate it, she gets the other side of the coin – with students terrified of her, how can she ever lead a normal high school life? And terrified, like how? It is due to the fact that she resembles the Asian horror flick star Sadako (even their names are the same!) that she her classmates are terrified of her, she, too, has been rumored to have supernatural powers and has always been a lone wolf, making the situation even worse! But thankfully, there are some who have seen the kindness in her and the series is all about her trying to enjoy a normal high school life with her new found friends.

Art

While the art is not as fantastic or flashy as how one would expect, it is light and colorful – very fitting of an anime series which features a great and promising high school life. The art style, while the series is branded as Shoujo, is very different from the typical shoujo art style which features sparkling eyes and the like. It is pretty normal, but good normal! Not to mention the impressive backgrounds and backdrops for the series.

Characters

No one is ever normal in the world of Kimi ni Todoke. Sawako, for one, the main character, is an object of fear and terror despite being very mild and amicable. Her friends are also not your typical girls next door who are openly friendly and nice. The boy she admires isn’t also as normal as one would expect of a typical hero. Now, doesn’t that make things exciting?

Overall

If you are looking for a light watch and want to see something that’s funny and touching at the same time – then, come and watch this series, we’re sure you would love it!
