Anime Goes Hollywood!

There have been a lot of rumors circulating about movie adaptations to be made from anime by non other than Hollywood. With the few movie adaptations here and there, the rumors keep on coming. Dead or Alive and Blood: The Last Vampire, video game and anime series both brought into the wide screen brought about more speculations for more adaptations to be made in the future.

The fans are no stranger to live action adaptations lifted from manga and anime. As a matter of fact, live action films dominate the Japanese theaters from time to time and are well received. Another popular form of adaptation is the live action series’ or television dramas. Most of which boost young actors and actresses to stardom, allowing them to take live action parts from one chance to another.

As the popularity of adaptations are tried and tested – regardless of the quality, whether they are good adaptations or bad, they still do appeal to fans and are supported. So here are a number of movie and series adaptations that have been made and others that are still rumored to be made.

Dead or Alive

A fighting game turned into a movie. It takes a somewhat realistic approach to the action packed game. It retains the action scenes and the excitement – as how DoA should be. It’s safe to say that it is a decent adaptation.

Dragonball Evolution

An entertaining movie based on the well loved anime if you are not familiar with Dragonball in the first place. If you’re no fan, you might be pulled into the fandom. But if you’re a fan, disappointment awaits as the series had to be literally butchered in order to take it to Hollywood.

Speed Racer

Another one of those ambitious productions. The idea was well and good but it is safe to say that it still fell short. However, producers are still hopeful that despite the poor reception to Speed Racer’s film release, other anime to movie adaptations still have good chances.


Deathnote movies

The series that caused quite a stir. Death note has been adapted into a movie, a novel and three movies have been made based on it. The original material had been tweaked for all three but the fans have received all adaptations quite well. It has been a long standing rumor that an American version of the movie will be produced and various cast lists have been released. However, the official announcement regarding the matter is yet to be made.


Other popular titles

Other titles include Full Metal Panic!, Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell and a bunch others. If the actualization of rumors regarding Dead or Alive and Dragonball is any indication – then it would only be right to assume that these popular titles will be hitting the silver screen some time soon.


Well then, get you popcorns ready. We might just be in for seasons of Hollywood adaptations.
