A Mask to Last

Posted: January 16, 2010

These characters wear mask, not on occasion, but on a daily basis. You think that's make up? or just their normal faces? Think again!

Pierrot the Quedam Clown from Yakitate Japan

Known as the best clown and illusion artist in the world, Pierrot is the star of the Quedam Circus. He has the skills, the clothes and the personality for it and just one look and you would know that he's the star of the world famous circus. He wears his make-up 24/7, every minutes of the day and every day of the week. It's almost impossible to catch him not wearing but he does "remove" it at times. One time during the whole series run, Pierrot comes to visit Azuma and the gang and was nearly unrecognized since he didn't have his make up on. As a normal person, he is pretty good looking and is rather princely. However, as it turns out, the common face was just a mask and whole body suit since he felt that it was too troublesome to remove the make up he has on in his face when they will just remove it anyway! Now that's pretty something!

The Mysterious Monk Chichiri from Fushigi Yuugi

He wears a smiling face everyday, no matter how bad the situation gets. And when we say wearing, we do mean it literally so take it as it literally as it can get! Chichiri is a happy and yet mysrerious young monk who appears ever so often when the crew is in trouble. As it turns out, Chichiri is actually one of the guardians of the Maiden of Suzaku or Suzaku no Miko and is a really reliable one at that as he is adept in sorcery among other things. A happy guy, generally cheerful, one wouldn't think that underneath the mask is a scarred young man who had experience a lot of pain - and with the use of the mask, Chichiri is able to cover the mark of his pain.
